Description: It is generally accepted that the challenges posed by climate change and other sustainability issues are most effectively dealt with when they utilise transdisciplinary teams and understanding. The traditional structure of professional education and training in the tertiary sector encourages professional demarcation and the development of a silo mentality. Creative educational mechanisms have to be developed in order to overcome this mindset, fostering the search for solutions from non-traditional sources, and learning to collaborate with other professions. This paper sets out the characteristics required of such a learning approach, and describes its practical implementation in an on-line environment.
